I got my Ph.D. (Dr. rer. nat)\u00a0in 2000 from the Technical University of Munich<\/a>, but most of\u00a0the actual research work for my thesis\u00a0was done at Max-Planck-Institut f\u00fcr Physik <\/a>in Munich-Freimann. I took part in the development of the Forward Time Projection Chambers (FTPCs)<\/a> for the STAR Experiment<\/a> at the Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider (RHIC)<\/a>\u00a0at Brookhaven National Laboratory<\/a> in Brookhaven, New York.\u00a0You can download my thesis (in English)\u00a0from the TU-Munich Library <\/a>or from the group page at Max Planck<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a>From 1992 to 1997,\u00a0I studied physics at the University of Frankfurt<\/a> and finished with the degree of Dipl.-Phys., specializing in nuclear physics. I did my diploma thesis at the Institut f\u00fcr Kernphysik Frankfurt<\/a>\u00a0(IKF), in the high energy group<\/a>, doing mostly laser calibrations<\/a> in the time projection\u00a0chambers (TPCs) of the NA49 experiment<\/a> at the European Center for Particle Physics (CERN)<\/a> in Geneva, Switzerland. \"\"<\/a>In parallel to my Ph.D. work in\u00a0Munich, I studied business administration at FernUniversit\u00e4t Hagen<\/a>, in a special\u00a0program for scientists<\/a>, leading\u00a0to the degree of\u00a0Dipl.-Wirt.-Phys. I did my diploma thesis\u00a0in operations research<\/a>, on stock price forecasts using a\u00a0chart technical approach in the probabilistic expert system SPIRIT<\/a>. If you are interested, please contact me by mail<\/a>.\u00a0After finishing this course I was\u00a0still inscribed at the FernUniversit\u00e4t for a while, looking into liberal arts and psychology<\/a>, but after the course of study kept getting changed and finally tuition was introduced for students already holding a degree, I gave that up and went back to reading books without having a university send them to me.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a>During my studies in Frankfurt, I had a scholarship from Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung<\/a>, first in the regular program for German students<\/a>, then in the program for future journalists (Journalistische Nachwuchsf\u00f6rderung, today Journalistenakademie)<\/a>. To every student\u00a0who thinks he or she might possibly be qualified, I highly recommend applying<\/a> – their seminar program<\/a> is excellent, and who could not use the money?<\/p>\n
